The Humanities Department is staffed by a full complement of teachers who specialise in History, Geography and Government & Politics. We are a hardworking team who are passionate and dedicated to our subjects. We take seriously our responsibility to provide a high quality Catholic education and strive to promote the ethos of the academy in our words, actions and relationships through our teaching of the Humanities subjects.

The Curriculum

We teach History and Geography as distinct academic subjects, with a full and varied programme of study for each subject. We seek to develop our students’ understanding of their place in the world and society in its historical and geographical context. The knowledge they gain helps them understand their rights and responsibilities towards all members of society.

At KS4 we offer GCSEs in both History and Geography which are integral to the English Baccalaureate. Both subjects develop students’ analytical and thinking skills which are sought after by employers and prepare students for further study at A Level and the world of work alike. In History we study the Modern World (20th Century) and Geography contains both human and physical elements. We offer field trips to encourage and engage students in their learning.

Our popular A Level courses in History and Government & Politics are delivered by very experienced staff. Geography A Level is currently delivered by one of our partner schools. Our students often develop a passion for their chosen subjects. They regularly achieve good grades and progress to further and higher education.
